Between a Rock, a Crock, and a Hard Reality

Why nationalisation of Northern Rock is portent of doom.

Ok maybe my maths and politics is bad. I mean - I don't think our nation is corrupt like some third world banana republic. Do you?

However, there's a figure, that's been pushed today - this day of 21st November 2007.

£25,000,000,000 (Source)

25 billion Queens heads. Not 25 million - that was just the amount of people's identities compromised by outstanding government efficiency. But not the same government that's going to bring in ID cards at all costs. Oh no. That's a different government. Probably the third world banana republic one we were discussing earlier.

So - perhaps backing a private bank is the thing to do, ordering a Bank of England payout for Northern Rock - perhaps people should be guarunteed if not the first £35,000 whatever then maybe even all. That's not the point here though. The point is, whilst private banks are being bailed out by the taxpayer - Whatever wrong decisions they made - their malfeasance, overselling, simple human error or whatever it is, won't be paid for by them. It'll be paid for by all of US!

Meanwhile according to my rubbish mathematics the bailout of Northern Rock could itself provide housing for around 2,500,000 People! Food for thought... Or Food for code? You decide. Either way. It's a question of welfare. The welfare of the rich, versus the welfare of the poor.

If we put more effort into worrying about each other's welfare, rather then the welfare of this strange thing called an 'economy' - maybe we wouldn't be in this mess. I'm Just saying...
