When you died I had to finish the reel of film wthout faces, frantically clicking the button in a car park before the negatives turned themselves back inside out. Somewhere those bleak shots of trolleys and white-paint lines are stuffed in the album, a spare day. Hopeless discovery. I've kept them as accurate displays, my mind's blank slate filling diagonal compositions. A sloped embarrassment taken at lofty speed. They are my confused and awkward stare rebounding from the supermarket steel into green plastic, grim lurking clouds. The colour of slow-burning surprise in the distance; indifference. |
