I've nearly started to care about the current Elvira of heroin chic. Thanks to the endless paternal and patronising coverage of the London daily papers and free sheets I endlessly slather over to the gossip section, to see exactly how many needles were spotted sticking out of everyone's favourite current Musical Minstraless in the wee small hours of the London night... After a couple of weeks of mealy mouthed hypocritical hatred, pity and scorn - it has to be asked, how much longer does this warrant press attention? Indeed should it even be a note of public interest at all - does it encourage or dissuade the kids from getting the needle kit out and popping down to the nearest heroin distributor? At least browsing through thelondonpaper website Amy looked better than ever at the mobo awards the other day:
How many other pictures were passed over in favour of this one? Is the current media circus so clinically cynically bored that it will document every line in the face of a celebrity's drug addictions? It cannot be helpful to the individual concerned, or even the wider public - there is no real justifyable public interest in the documentation of Amy's sad decline. Public interest isn't about whether the public is interested - it's about whether the public should be interested. End this purient nonsense now. Or make Amy marry Pete Doherty and publish their mutual exploits in picture books banned for the under 18's. Either way - it's not news, it's not in the public interest to know, and this is the last I'm going to write about Amy in a long time. Great voice, Stupid Woman, whilst we can hope Amy get's back on track, the media giving a crap -isn't going to help, it's that simple.
